Dr Paul Stapleton is an artist/researcher born in Long Beach (California) currently based in Belfast (Ireland), and employed (from 1st August 2007) as a research fellow at the Sonic Arts Research Centre, Queen’s University Belfast. theybreakinpieces are three artists (mona mccarthy, paul stapleton and nick williams) who are involved in multiple forms of cross-disciplinary collaboration. we are currently investigating a range of environmental interactions conducted through the media of conversation, improvised performance, and audio-visual recording technologies. these interventions take place in a wide range of urban and rural environments providing opportunities to explore the collision of localized academic, social and geographical settings. we have received multiple grants from the arts council of england and other funding bodies for activities that include the creation of site-specific durational performances and performative lectures, as well as the delivery of workshops and symposiums on collaborative live arts practices.
