I’m the metalworker/craft practitioner who collaborated with Paul & Leon in the design & realization of the modular sound sculpture for the live archives workshops. One of my interests involves regarding the sculpture’s design & realization as a form of improvised performance per se. One where craft practice may be construed as a process of design-by-making, proceeding from the ‘ignorance-of- the-new’ where one begins, to the ‘knowledge-of-the-new’ with which one ends (cf. J.C. Jones, Design Methods, 2nd Edition). Hence to construe design-by-making as a form of practice-led inquiry (cf. J. Dewey, Logic: the theory of inquiry). Finally, further to the question of the sculptures materialization, to consider the issue of eliciting & documenting the experiential knowledge as the (non-material) outcome of such practice-led inquiry.
