I am working on a PhD at Texas Woman’s University exploring improvisation and site-sensitive performance. Based in Newcastle, and sometimes working in the US, I am an improvisational performer working through movement, locations and sounds. I enjoy working collaboratively with other artists and I co-founded Brief Magnetics with Simone Kenyon to build narratives for and within places and spaces. In Summer 2006, we performed the entire length of the Pennine Way, a performance blogged at www.ashleykenyonwalk.blogspot.com . This year, I have developed an improvisational performance partnering with melting ice and a flickering film which documents presence and gestures in the landscape, a live performance which has also been rendered as a web performance. Change, fluidity and the rendering of ideas across different media are of interest. Recently, through doctoral research, I am exploring documentation that is created in the moment of performance by the performer, including embodied archives captured in physical gestures and movements.
